MONTHLY RENTAL – ROCK CREEK IN WINTER
Golden Stone – Monthly Rental
Rent Golden Stone by the month in winter! If availability allows, we are offering Golden Stone, a 4 bedroom cabin in a serene location near Rock Creek, for rent by the month January through April.
Less than 30 miles from Missoula, Montana, the Golden Stone cabin is close to civilization, but when you are at the cabin, civilizations seems hundreds of miles away.
Covid-19
In the time of Covid-19, renting a cabin in Western Montana can be appealing. Montana has some of the lowest case numbers in the country. And, should a lockdown occur again, Rock Creek is a great place to shelter-in-place. Outdoor activities are encouraged in Montana. While the rest of the world goes crazy, grab your fly rod or skis and head outdoors.

Cross Country Skiing in the Rock Creek Valley
Outdoors Activities So Close
Getting outdoors and getting exercise in winter is easy on Rock Creek. Snowshoeing and cross country skiing can be done within a very short distance from the cabin.
Discovery Ski Area and Missoula’s Snow Bowl Ski Area are short drives for downhill skiing.
For groomed cross country ski trails, there are numerous trails in Western Montana. Visit the Missoula Nordic Ski Club website for trail conditions.
Several of the Lolo National Forest hiking trails which are close to the cabin are perfect for snowshoeing in winter. Trails that follow creek bottoms are perfect as they are not steep. These forested trails offer peace and tranquility on a winter’s day.
Winter Fly Fishing
Winter fly fishing for trout (catch and release) and mountain whitefish is a great way to spend a sunny winter’s afternoon.
In the wider portions of the Valley, the river is open and fish-able all winter. In narrow portions that receive less sunlight in winter, the river freezes over.
Fish the river with nymphs and streamers in the dead of winter. As the season begins to change in March, the hatches begin, and catching fish on dry flies can be good late March through April.

Winter View From the Cabin
The Weather
We moved from the NorthEast to Western Montana because the winters are much less severe than northern New Hampshire. So our view of the weather might not align with everyone’s, lol.
There are lots of sunny days, along with days of snow, and overcast gray days. The cabin is located in one of the wider positions of the valley do we receive a bit more sunshine than some locations.
My favorite days are those that snow at a constant pace, not heavy or light, without wind. On these days the silence is deafening, the fireplace inviting, and the view of the falling snow outside fills the soul with peace.
What’s Included
The monthly rental rate for Golden Stone is $2500 per month.
Included in the rent is:
- Heat
- Electricity
- Satellite TV
- WiFi
- Local Service Telephone
- Plowing
The cabin is pet friendly with conditions.
The cabin is not book-able online for monthly rentals. Please call us to discuss the possibility.

Golden Stone in January

Rock Creek Road on an Icy Morning – Gorgeous!
Who is the Ideal Winter Tenant?
- Someone who is either retired or works from home
- Someone who values outdoor recreation and enjoys winter snows
- Angler(s) who want to fly fish year-round
- Writer(s)
- Property Buyers
I’m sure there are many others I’ve omitted. We don’t recommend commuting to Missoula for a daily schedule due to winter weather. While the county maintains the road, and we have the driveway plowed, it is never early in the morning that road maintenance occurs. Rock Creek Road is a lower priority for county maintenance crews due to the low number of commuters, lack of school-aged children, and distance from county maintenance facilities.
