It is not uncommon to see black bears in the Rock Creek Valley, especially in late August and September. And while we do not have a resident grizzly population, they can and do wander through.

It’s a personal choice. Just know that you cannot bring bear spray on an airplane.

I’ve fished Rock Creek for years without carrying bear spray. However, when I venture into the wilderness on hikes or horseback, I always carry bear spray.
